I know very little about the systems, but my ps2 is about shot, and I need to know a few things before I invest.

Can I play PS1, and PS2 games on the PS3?

If I get the 40gb version will that be enough to just save my games?

What else would I need a higher gb version for?

Yes, you can play all previous PS games on the 3. 40gb is more then enough, especially if you are using it for just game playing. I have the 60g and I'll never use even 20 I bet, being as when I'm done with a game I tend to trade it on another so I delete the previous saved data. Unlessi LOVE the game, then I'll keep it and the saved data. You will love it! LOADS of fun!

Oh, you'd need the higher versions on gb IF you planned to use it as a mass storage device, like pictures and videos and crap, but that's exactly what it is... crap! Put it this way on the mb thing, Madden is the biggest "hog" game I have in storage space and it requires minimun of 220mb to play. The other games are less to the point of guitar hero needs 1kb, if you bust out the math, that's CRAZY amounts of game before you even scratch the surface of your capacity.
